 RecStreams for macOS — "cannot be opened" fix guide
================================================================================

RecStreams is a small independent program and is not "notarized" by Apple,
so macOS treats it as an untrusted download the first time you try to open
it. You may see one of these messages:

    * "RecStreams can't be opened because it is from an unidentified
      developer."
    * "RecStreams cannot be opened because the developer cannot be
      verified."
    * "The application 'RecStreams' can't be opened."
    * "'RecStreams' is damaged and can't be opened."

This is NOT a virus warning and the app is not broken. It only means the
app was downloaded from the internet and carries a macOS "quarantine"
flag (a hidden tag macOS stamps on every file you download). Removing
that flag makes the app open normally. There are three ways to do it —
pick whichever is easiest for you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 METHOD 1 (easiest — recommended): double-click the helper script
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A helper script named Remove-Quarantine.command comes in the same folder
as this file.

  1. Put RecStreams.app and Remove-Quarantine.command in the same
     folder. (Or move the app into /Applications first and leave the
     helper anywhere — it also checks /Applications automatically.)
  2. Double-click  Remove-Quarantine.command.
  3. A Terminal window opens. After a few seconds it says the flag was
     removed and asks "Open RecStreams.app now? [y/N]" — press y and
     Enter. RecStreams launches.

If macOS ALSO blocks the helper script itself (double-clicking it shows
"unidentified developer" / "cannot be verified" for the file called
Remove-Quarantine.command), do this once:

    Right-click  Remove-Quarantine.command  ->  Open  ->  Open

That single right-click unblocks the helper. From then on the helper opens
normally, removes the flag from RecStreams (and from itself) every time,
and you never need to touch the Terminal again.

No administrator password is needed. The flag belongs to your user
account and you are allowed to remove it. Do NOT use "sudo" for this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 METHOD 2 (one-time, no helper): right-click -> Open
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you just want to open the app once and don't care about the helper:

  1. Find  RecStreams.app  in Finder.
  2. RIGHT-click (or Ctrl+click) it and choose "Open".
  3. Click "Open" in the warning dialog.
  4. The app launches, and from then on opens normally with a plain
     double-click.

This works on macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) and newer. It does not remove the
flag — it tells Gatekeeper "I accept this app", which is exactly what the
flag is for. Same end result as Method 1.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 METHOD 3 (for power users): manual Terminal command
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you prefer to type the command yourself:

  1. Open the Terminal app (press Cmd+Space, type "Terminal", press Enter).
  2. If RecStreams.app is in /Applications, run:

         xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/RecStreams.app

     If it is somewhere else, type "xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine " (with a
     space at the end), then drag RecStreams.app from Finder into the
     Terminal window to insert its path, and press Enter.
  3. Done. Double-click RecStreams.app to run it.
